Leukocyte Platelet-Rich Fibrin
Leukocyte Platelet-Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) is a material that is produced using the patient’s own blood and used in oral surgeries to stimulate the patient’s own natural healing abilities. Platelets help with the formation of blood clots during natural healing and perform other healing functions that stimulate stem cells to grow new tissue. When L-PRF is added directly to a wound or surgical site, it permits the body to heal faster and more efficiently.
Sometimes, L-PRF is used in conjunction with bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) in bone grafting procedures to grow bone faster in preparation for placing dental implants.
