Drs. Jim Morgan, Nick Morio, and William Morio of Dental Implant & Oral Surgery Specialists of Iowa announced Barbara, 49, as their first Smile Again recipient. Barbara, of Hiawatha, was selected out of more than 200 local applicants to receive a free smile makeover. The Smile Again program is a new charitable initiative designed to offer the community an opportunity to apply to receive a free $50,000 full-arch restoration treatment. Individuals suffering from decayed, missing, and broken teeth who cannot afford the necessary dental treatment were encouraged to apply.
As Barbara had gotten older, her health declined, including her dental health. In her application, Barbara said her smile was holding her back, and she felt less confident. She wanted to enjoy being a grandparent to her two grandsons without feeling embarrassed when they asked her why she is missing so many teeth. When asked how a smile makeover would change her life, Barbara said, “I would love to be able to smile in photos with my grandchildren and feel beautiful for my 50th birthday and my 20th wedding anniversary with my husband in June.”
“The Smile Again program is much more than providing a patient with a brand-new smile,” Dr. Morgan said. “It gives them the confidence that they have been struggling with most of their lives and allows them to pursue the goals that they might have held back from because of their smile. Barbara’s story and kind-hearted personality stood out to our team, and I cannot wait to give her the smile that she deserves at the end of this.”
Dr. JJ Heying of Blair Ridge Dental, Studio 32, and Nobel Biocare will assist Dental Implant & Oral Surgery Specialists of Iowa in Barbara’s procedure to give her a smile she deserves. The treatment relies on dental implants as anchors, which support the fixed denture. The oral surgeon will surgically insert the dental implants directly into the jawbone to create a stable and supportive foundation. When the procedure is complete, Barbara will have a full set of fully functioning and natural-looking teeth.
